The Blunham Good Neighbour Scheme (BGNS) volunteer service is open to assist you. If you or someone you know needs support with the sort of help a good neighbour would offer for a short time please encourage them to contact us on 07480999601 or through the link below.
All our volunteers are insured, DBS checked and offer their time for free. There will be a suggested donation to cover motoring expenses and all other direct costs will need to be paid for. Please give as much notice as you can and we will do our best to help.
Befriending
When friends and family live too far away to make regular contact, a Blunham Good Neighbour could provide a little bit of company and friendly social contact in your own home. So if you are feeling a bit isolated because of restricted mobility or lack of close friends in the neighbourhood, ask one of our Good Neighbours around for a chat, to read the local paper to you, play a game or make a cup of tea.
Forms & Letter Writing
If you need help filling in non legal forms or you need help writing a letter then one of our volunteers may be able to help.
Or, if you have received a letter and you cannot read it or do not fully understand its contents, then we will do our best to help you.
Light Gardening
If your garden needs a quick tidy up eg. lawn mowing, weeding etc. and you are temporarily unable to do it yourself through sudden illness or disability, then one of our volunteers may be able to help.
However, we are sorry we will not be able to mow the lawn or do the weeding on a regular basis.
Light DIY
If you need help with small indoor jobs around the house eg. changing a light bulb, replacing the batteries in your smoke alarm etc. Please ask and we will be happy to tell you if it is something one of our volunteers can help with.
Pet Care & Dogwalking
If your pet is unwell one of our volunteers may be able to organise a visit to the Vet’s for you, with your pet.
It may also be possible to arrange one off dog walking if you are unable to take your pet out due to illness etc.
Lifts to Local Appointments
If you need assistance to travel to the hospital, clinic or doctor and the other agencies can’t support you then one of our volunteers may be able to help.
Shopping & Errands
If there are occasions when you can’t do your shopping due to bad weather, illness etc. then one of our volunteers may be able to help.
On these occasions, we can either take you to the shop and help, or do the shopping for you if you provide us with a list.
